Many countries throughout the world are on lockdown, which means that there are very few people about like there usually would be. This is especially true in the world's cities, where cities are now mostly deserted and have been for a number of weeks.
Due to places in the world like cities being deserted, it means that there are less people about. As there are a lot less people about, it makes places like that more appealing to animals for a number of reasons - most animals likely see humans as a threat so they will avoid places where there are a lot of people and, less noise pollution probably now makes these places less intimidating to animals. Therefore, with no or little people and no or little noise, animals are venturing into places that have high human populations in a way that they never would have before.
In Venice for example, marine animals that aren’t usually spotted there have been spotted in the Venice canals. There are several different marine animals that have been spotted in Venice since it was locked down. One of the marine animals that was spotted in Venice during its lockdown was jellyfish. The big jellyfish could be seen swimming along the Venice canals through the clear canal waters, as you can see below.
Jellyfish swimming through the Venice canal isn’t the only marine animals that has been spotted swimming in these waters, another species of animal that has been found swimming is fish. Through the clear waters - the clearest waters seen for decades in Venice - swarms of fish could be seen swimming about the clear waters.
Venice is not the only part of Italy that has seen cleaner waters and a less hectic environment for wild animals, another part of Italy which has seen the same thing is Sardinia. In Sardinia, Dolphins could be seen swimming about in clean water. They could also be seen as being playful next to the shore where some humans were standing, as if they were happy to see them.
In other areas of the world, wild animals have also been experiencing the same freedom and less hectic environment for them since the lockdowns have been in place. For example, in the UK there have been Goats which have been taking over towns in the absence of humans and deers also taking over towns. While in South Africa, there have been Penguins walking on deserted human streets. Animals have been wandering into human settlements that they often wouldn’t wander into when it’s busy with humans.
Why Would Wild Animals Come Into Human Settlements?
Animals could be coming into human settlements for different reasons. One of the reasons that they are probably coming into human settlements is because it feels less hectic for them, it would be less hectic for them because there is less noise, which would make human settlements more peaceful for animals to move into. Another reason that they are probably moving into human settlements is because with their being less people about it would feel safer for the animals to be about in these settlements, both because there are less people and less traffic. A lockdown world has created a world that is cleaner for animals and less hectic.
