There is great news, as Wales becomes the first UK nation to ban greyhound racing!
The Welsh Government has announced that it is set to ban greyhound racing in Wales.
In the historic move, it means that Wales will become the first of the four UK nations to ban greyhound racing, and hopefully, it wonāt be the last.
In a consultation, it found that over 90% of respondents supported a ban. People support it due to animal welfare concerns - in this day and age, there should be no need to use animals as a source of entertainment, it is outdated, cruel, and belongs in the history books.
It is a welcoming move from Wales, showing a leadership in animal rights from the country - Wales was also the first UK nation to ban snares & glue traps, and, they have also banned wild animals in circuses too.
As of February 2025, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England have not banned greyhound racing. Hopefully, we can see them follow the lead from the Welsh government and ban it too.
