While the coronavirus situation hasn’t been providing good news lately, there are good things that are happening because of this situation.
There are silver linings and light to be found in this situation.
#5 The Chance To Make A Better World
Post-lockdown is a chance to make the world a better place for people, animals and the environment. It’s a chance for us to prevent future viruses from happening by banning wet markets, which would help save lives and prevent human suffering.
It would also stop animal suffering if the markets were banned.
We also have a chance to notice our connection to other animals and the natural world. If animals are treated well and the natural world is treated well, then it will not only benefit animals and create a cleaner and healthier planet, it will also benefit us and keep us healthier.
A healthier planet also makes it look more beautiful.
#4 It’s Showing Us That Our Planet Could Be Cleaner
With human activity stopped during countries with a lockdown, it became clear how much pollution was in places like our water systems. For example, in Venice, the canals turned clear and marine animals like jellyfish were spotted swimming through the canals.
The Venice canals have shown us that our use of waterways pollutes things like canals, both with pollution from emissions and from the pollution that comes in the form of noise pollution.
#3 It’s Showing Us How We Affect Wild Animals
The lockdowns have shown us how we affect wild animals. With wild animals coming into cities and towns during the lockdown in a way that they never used to before, it shows us how aware animals are of our presence.
Perhaps it also shows how much noise pollution affects animals to when it comes to urban areas. Perhaps noise pollution makes animals so anxious that they avoid it at all costs. Therefore, perhaps reducing noise pollution, such as trying to create vehicles which are silent, could help wild animals within and around urban areas live a more peaceful life.
#2 The End Of China’s Wet Markets
The virus has shone China’s wet markets under light and exposed them to the world. The wet markets are the thing is thought to have caused both this coronavirus and SARS, therefore, pressure has been mounting on China to end it’s wet markets.
It would be good for the health of humans and prevent the suffering and torture of animals if the wet markets were to end. If you want to help end China’s wet markets then go - here.
#1 Bullfighting Has Stopped/In Decline
There isn’t a more abhorrent and cruel blood ‘’sport’’ (an act of cowardice and barbarity), than bullfighting. Usually, it is around this time of year that bullfights take place.
The good news is, is that the bullfights have stopped. The other good news is that the bullfighting industry could be about to fold, as they have said that they need hundreds of millions to keep bullfighting going. Perhaps this situation could be the thing that ends bullfighting.
