Today is National Save The Eagles Day. 🦅
National Save the Eagles Day happens on the 10th of January every year.
It is quite a new day, as only seems to have been created on the 10th of January 2015.
National Save The Eagles Day Was founded by the Ridgefield Village Park community and the Bergen County Audubon Society. The day was created to help a pair of eagles who were at risk of being moved, thankfully, the locals campaigned to keep the eagles in their habitat home, and they succeeded! It just shows that we can all have an impact and save nature if we put our voices out there and help save nature.
National Save The Eagles Day was originally established to help a pair of eagles, but now, it has grown to help save all eagles. It is a day were we can raise awareness about eagles.
There are 60 different species of eagle in the world. Most of the eagle species are found in Europe, Asia and Africa.
Some of the 60 eagle species are:
. Bald eagles
. Hawks eagles
. Fish eagles
. Golden eagles
. Tawny Eagles
These are just some of the many species of eagles in the world today.
Sadly, half of all eagle species are at risk, as they are either vulnerable to extinction, endangered, or critically endangered.
The species of eagles which are critically endangered today are:
. Madagascar-Fish Eagles
. Philippine Eagles
The last time Madagascar-Fish Eagles were assessed by the IUCN Red List was in 2016, conservationists found that the population of these eagles are declining and that there were only 240 Madagascar-Fish Eagles left, making these beautiful birds one of the most endangered animals in the world today.
Sadly, the Philippine Eagle is also in a similar position, they were also last assessed by the IUCN Red List in 2016, and it was also found that their population was decreasing, it is estimated that the population of the Philippine Eagle is between 180-500 birds.
National Save The Eagles Day gives us an opportunity to raise awareness about these beautiful birds, raising awareness about them can help them, as we can help save species from becoming extinct if we know they are at risk of becoming extinct.
