The Top 6 World’s Largest Rainforests

The world is full of so many beautiful rainforests, which contains inside them a variety of unique and exotic animal and plant life. These rainforests can be found in many of the earth’s continents today, from Australia to South America.

The world’s rainforests are full of life, both human and animal life. In some forests, like the Amazon rainforest, there is estimated to be 30 million people living there. Some of these people live in contacted tribes (contacted tribes are tribes which have had contact with the outside world), and there are also uncontacted tribes in the Amazon rainforest (which are tribes of people that haven’t had contact with the outside world).

The world's rainforests are huge. They are so big that 80% of the world’s known species are found within the world’s rainforests, yet, the world’s rainforests only cover less than 10% of the world’s land surface. The Amazon rainforest is one of the world’s largest rainforests. Let’s see what the top 6 of the world’s largest rainforests are throughout the world today.

6) Daintree Rainforest (Size: 460 sq mi)

The Daintree rainforest is a rainforest in Australia. It is a rainforest which is dense and can be quite dark during daylight hours. It is very rich in animal life, holding 65% of Australia’s bat and butterfly species within it. It also has a fifth of Australia’s bird species living within it.

The Daintree Rainforest is found in Queensland Australia, which is a state in the North-East of Australia. The Daintree Rainforest is part of the Queensland tropical rainforests.

5) Queensland's Tropical Rainforests (Size: 12,600 sq mi)

Queensland’s tropical rainforests do not only consist of the Daintree Tropical Rainforests, it also consists of many protected national parks in Queensland.

A total of 79% of the Queensland Tropical rainforest is protected today. This includes the Daintree rainforest, but also most of the national parks within Queensland’s rainforest - this protected land also includes the Great Barrier Reef, which is not a rainforest but which is near Queensland’s tropical rainforests. This rainforest includes many animals which are native to Australia, including Tree-Kangaroos and Tree-Frogs.

South America is well-known for one of its rainforests: the Amazon rainforest. But, there are other rainforests within South America, such as the Valdivian Temperate Rainforest.

The Valdivian Temperate Rainforest can be found in two South American countries: Chile and Argentina. It is an ecosystem which is made of of a surprising combination of flora, such as evergreen bamboos and conifer trees. This rainforest also has beautiful animals, including the Kodkod, which is a small Jaguar-like cat, and adorable Sloths which can be found within the rainforest.

The Borneo Rainforest is so huge that it is three times the size of the United Kingdom, making this rainforest one of the largest rainforests in the world and one of the largest on-land ecosystems in the world. Borneo’s rainforest is one of the last great wildernesses in the world today.

2) The Congo Rainforest (Size:300,000 sq mi)

The Congo Rainforest is the world’s second largest country. It spans over five different countries within Africa. It is one of the most endangered rainforests in the world today.

This African rainforest is also home to some of the world’s most endangered wild animals today. Such as the Mountain Gorilla. Mountain Gorillas are endangered. However, last December there was good news for Mountain Gorillas, as it was reported that their population had increased to 1,063.

This gorgeous rainforest has animals living within it that are found nowhere else in the world today. Amongst the animals living within the Amazon rainforest include: Jaguars, Howler Monkeys and Sloths.

The Amazon Rainforest isn’t just known for its unique and interesting animals, it is also known for its various human tribes that we don’t have any contact with today.
