The Ravens of the Tower of London are one of the coolest things about the tower.
There are six cool Ravens at the Tower of London, and, each of the Ravens at the Tower of London have their own cool and unique names!
The names of the six Ravens are:
1) Jubilee
2) Merlina
3) Poppy
4) Erin
5) Rocky
6) Gripp
And, there is also Georgie the Raven. There is always six tower Ravens and one extra Raven, due to the legends that surrounds the tower.
The Legends About The Tower
It is believed that there should be Ravens at the Tower of London at all times. Legend has it if the six Ravens leave the tower, then, 'the kingdom will fall'.
The seventh Raven ensures that there will always be six Ravens at the tower.
When Were They Introduced To The Tower?
It's not known when the tower Ravens were introduced into the Tower of London.
What we do know is that the Ravens date back to being at the Tower of London since King Charles II, therefore, the Ravens have now been an important part of the Tower of London for hundreds of years.
King Charles II reigned from 1649 to 1651 as Scotland's king, and then he reigned from 1660 to 1685 as the king of Scotland, England and Ireland.
Charles II wanted the Ravens to stay at the Tower of London because of his belief that if the Ravens left the Tower of London then the 'kingdom would fall'.
Looking After The Ravens
Today, the Ravens are looked after at the Tower of London.
The Ravens at the Tower of London are looked after by a man called the Ravenmaster. The Ravenmaster feeds the Ravens every day.
The Ravenmaster feeds the Ravens different types of foods every day, which consists of largely meat and biscuits. The Ravens are fed twice every day.
