The adorable Tasmanian devil has returned to the Australian mainland for the first time in 3,000 years.
Tasmanian devils are an adorable species of marsupials that are native to the Australian island of Tasmania.
Tasmanian Devils Return To The Australian Mainland
Tasmanian devils have now been released back into the Australian mainland, 3,000 years after the adorable animals went extinct on the Australian mainland.
They were released into the wild by wildlife conservationists. There were a total of 26 Tasmanian devils that were released into a wildlife sanctuary north of Sydney in Australia.
This news offers positive hope that, once again, Tasmanian devils can live and thrive on the Australian mainland.
How Many Tasmanian Devils Are There?
Today, the adorable Tasmanian devil is sadly an endangered species.
The Tasmanian devil population has declined a staggering 95% since the 1990s. In the 1990s, the Tasmanian devil population was estimated to be between 130,000 and 150,000 Tasmanian devils. Today, it is estimated that the Tasmanian devil population is between 10,000 and 25,000 individuals. Therefore, the introduction of these cute animals onto the Australian mainland could boost their population and give them a brighter future.
