There is great news, as it has been announced that Scottish Wildcats are set to be released into the wild of Scotland this summer.
The Scottish Wildcats will be released into the Cairngorms this year, Saving Wildcats and Cairngorms Connect have announced.
This is great news, as Scottish Wildcats are critically endangered today and have a very low population.
At one time, the Wildcats existed in England, Wales and most of Scotland, but sadly, they became extinct due to human persecuation through them being hunted, and the destruction of their forest by humans. They went extinct in England and Wales during the Victorian era, and almost went extinct in Scotland around the time of World War One, leaving only a small population of them in the highlands of Scotland today.
Now there is hope that Wildcats can again roam the British Isles. The new release of Scottish Wildcats could be the beginning of restoring Wildcats in Scotland and the rest of the UK. It offers hope to these beautiful cats.
Scottish Wildcats are critically endangered today, they are one of the most endangered animals in the world and are on the brink of extinction.
They are also known by the cool name of the Highland Tiger! 🐾
