Saving A Protected Habitat: Coul Links Golf Course Is Rejected

The Scottish government has rejected plans to create a golf course at Coul Links. Coul Links is an area of sand dunes which is in Northern Scotland, in Sutherland.

There were many objections to the golf course from wildlife charities, including the Wildlife Trusts and the RSPB. Both of these wildlife charities rejected the application for the Coul Links golf course because they believed that if the golf course went ahead it would destroy the sand dunes habitat of Coul Links and threaten endangered species of animals and plants which rely on the sand dunes.

Instead of destroying the sand dune habitat, wildlife charities have called for Coul Links to be properly protected by the Scottish government. Coul Links is currently a protected habitat.

This habitat was a nature reserve under the management of the Scottish Wildlife Trusts for 25 years, Coul Links was a Scottish Wildlife Trusts nature reserve between 1985 and 2010.

The rejection of the go-ahead of the Coul Links golf course means that it will protect the Coul Links sand dunes habitat and protect endangered species of animals and plants which rely on it.
