In the winter, it can be hard for wildlife to survive - including birds!
Food is less abundant in the winter.
Water can be frozen over.
It's the coldest time of the year.
And, there is not a lot of daylight hours, well, compared to the rest of the year!
So, our feathered friends could do with our help during the winter.
You can help them in your own garden.
There's several different ways to help birds during the winter, and help them to survive. Here are three different ways to help birds this winter:
. Provide food for them
Especially helpful to birds at this time of year is suet, as it will help to provide them with fat, which will help to give them energy during the winter months.
. Provide them with water
Another essential for birds to survive the winter is - water. Like food though, at this time of year water can be difficult to come by for birds, this is because water can be frozen over with the cold temperatures, so by providing water for them to drink in your garden, you can ensure the birds have a source of water to drink.
One thing to keep in mind with water - as it can freeze over during the winter, please check on it and you can make sure that the birds have the water they need to survive.
. And finally, one other thing that you can do to help the birds this winter is by providing them with shelter. You can do this by putting a bird box in your garden, it will give a bird or some birds a place to shelter during the winter time.
Your feathered-friends will be thankful for you providing them with help to survive the winter, and, you will also benefit too, as you can enjoy the birds right on your doorstep and listen to their beautiful singing.
