Atlantic Puffins are one of the cutest animals in the world. Their colourful beaks of orange/red/black and white makes these cute birds one of the most distinguishable birds and animals in the world today. They also stand out due to their beautiful face and orange feet.


The Atlantic Puffin isn't the only species of Puffin, there are several other species of Puffins in the world. These Puffin species include Horned Puffins and Tufted Puffins.


In total, there are four different species of Puffins in the world.


Atlantic Puffins are widespread across Northern Europe. They are one of the most numerous animals and birds in the wild today, having millions living within the wild today. There is estimated to be between 12 million and 14 million Atlantic Puffins living across Northern Europe today. These Atlantic Puffins migrate and live in different places during different seasons.

They are also found in North America, in the United States and Canada.

You can see Puffins in a few places throughout the UK; they are seen in several islands in the UK and in some coastal regions in the UK.


Puffins in the UK can be seen in Shetland, Orkney and Northern and Eastern coastal regions of Scotland. They are also found in two coastal areas in North East England, and some coastal areas of Wales and Northern Ireland.


What Do Atlantic Puffins Eat?


The diet of the Atlantic Puffin consists of fish. They eat two different types of fish: sand eels and herrings.


When Do Atlantic Puffins Breed?


The Atlantic Puffin breeding season is between April and May, when the female Puffin lays one egg. Female Puffins lay their eggs between this time and they incubate their eggs for between 36 and 45 days.


Both parents will feed the baby Puffin. A baby Puffin is known as a Puffling. Pufflings will be fed by their parents until they are ready to fly the nest, a Puffling can be fed and looked after by their parents for up to 60 days.

Puffins are known by several different other names. For example, in Shetland and Orkney Puffins are known as a Tammie Norrie. Puffins are also called Sea Parrots by some people.
