Plastic bag prices in England & Wales are set to double.
The price of plastic bags in England & Wales will increase next year to 10p per bag. This is an increase of 5p per bag. The changes will come into effect from April 2021.
The aim of increasing the price of plastic bags is to stop things like plastic pollution and helping wild animals by preventing them from either being caught in plastic bags or ingesting them.
Sadly, plastic pollution kills millions of marine animals every year.
Since the introduction of the 5p charge of plastic bags, there has been an 86% reduction in plastic bag usage from customers who shop in the countries biggest supermarkets.
