Pine Martins Are Helping To Protect Endangered Red Squirrels šŸŒ²šŸæļø

Red Squirrel

Pine Martins are helping to protect endangered Red Squirrels.

Today, Red Squirrels are endangered in the UK. At one time, Red Squirrels were found across most of Britain. However, today, Red Squirrels have largely disappeared from areas where they were once found.

It is estimated that there are only 287,000 Red Squirrels in Britain.

The low Red Squirrel population puts these cute animals at risk of extinction. It is estimated by the Red Squirrel Survival Trust that Red Squirrels could go extinct in England within 10 years if nothing is done to save them. They also estimated that Red Squirrels could soon become extinct in the rest of the UK after that, if, nothing is done to conserve Red Squirrels and save them from extinction.

From Wiki, 'SurreyJohn': Pine Martin

Thankfully, Red Squirrels seem to have found an ally in the natural world.

That ally is: Pine Martins.

Pine Martins are helping Red Squirrels in the UK from becoming extinct. Recently it has been announced that Pine Martins have helped boost the population of Red Squirrels. Pine Martins are helping Red Squirrels because the Pine Martins are eating more 'non-native grey squirrels'. The Grey Squirrels are bigger than Red Squirrels, which means than the greys can outcompete the Red Squirrels for food.
