Nature in Scotland has sadly been declining since the 1970s.
Scotland is also one of the most nature depleted countries in the world, which means that it is one of the top countries which has destroyed much of its wildlife.
This has resulted in a decline in both wild animals and ecosystems within Scotland. Today, the destruction of ecosystems has resulted in Scotland having species that are on the brink of extinction today.
The destruction of Scotland's ecosystems like forests is one of the main reasons for the Scottish Wildcat being critically endangered today.
The hunting of the Scottish Wildcat has also played a big part in these beautiful animals being almost hunted to extinction.
Today, it is estimated that as few as only 35 Scottish Wildcats remain in the wild of Scotland today. At one time, Scottish Wildcats were found all over most of Scotland. Highlighting this cats demise shows how much destruction has been caused to Scotland's wildlife and ecosystems.
It's not enough for the Scottish Government to just focus on the climate crisis we are currently living in, they also must focus on the biodiversity crisis that we are living in too. The Scottish Government needs to stop allowing and giving the go-ahead to the destruction of Scotland's ecosystems - such as the destruction of forests in the highlands, which are home to the critically endangered Scottish Wildcat.
Instead, the Scottish Government needs to protect the last remaining wild areas that Scotland has. By protecting ecosystems such as forests and meadows, we will also be protecting the wildlife that lives within these ecosystems and the planet.
The Scottish Government also needs to rewild and repair the damage that has been caused to Scotland's wildlife and ecosystems.
