It has been announced that giant pandas are no longer endangered in China.
Pandas have been one of the world's most endangered species for the last few decades - they are also one of the world's most iconic species.
Giant pandas were first classified as an endangered species in 1990.
These cute animals were classified as an endangered species for two main reasons: the deforestation of their forest home and them sadly being poached.
The giant panda being poached and having their forest home destroyed resulted in them being classified as endangered species for around 30 years.
Now, giant pandas are considered a vulnerable species.
The WWF also views giant pandas as a vulnerable species now.
Even though giant pandas are no longer regarded as an endangered species, they are still very vulnerable to extinction. These cute animals also still have a very low population today. The WWF estimates that the giant panda's population is 1,864 giant pandas in the wild today.
Although their population is still low, things are starting to look up for the giant pandas. And, hopefully, we can see these cute bears increasing their population in the future and see more positive news stories about these cute animals.
