Palmerston, The UK Government Foreign Office & Commonwealth Cat, Retires

Palmerston

Palmerston, the UK government Foreign Office & Commonwealth cat has retired from his post.

Palmerston is an adorable black and white cat who’s become an important feature of Downing Street. His full title while in government was ‘Chief Mouser to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’. His role during his time at the government has been to catch rodents.

A role that he has ruthlessly executed.

On the 25th of July 2018, Palmerston, while gracing Downing Street, was seen snatching a baby duckling from onlookers - an event that shocked the nation at the time.

This has not been the only time that Palmerston has made headlines for controversial reasons. Palmerston has also made headlines over his paw fights with tue top dog; or, should we say in this instance - top cat, with Larry the Downing Street cat.

Larry the cat has the top job of the cats at Downing Street. The adorable tabby cat Larry has the job title of Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office. Larry isn't afraid of his top position.

Which is where his scraps with Palmerston come in.

Palmerston’s Time At Downing Street

Palmerston has seen a few Prime Ministers come and go in his time.

He came to Downing Street on the 13th of April 2016, after being rescued from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. He is named after British Prime Minister Lord Palmerston.

Palmerston has served alongside a few Prime Ministers, including David Cameron, Theresa May, and Boris Johnson. But now, Palmerston bows out of his role. He will now go and live in the countryside, hopefully enjoying his Dreamies and time in retirement.

Thank you, Palmerston, enjoy your retirement. 😊🐾
