Over 10,000 Amazon Rainforest Species Are Now At Risk Of Extinction 💔

Amazon Rainforest

Over 10,000 Amazon rainforest species are now at risk of extinction!

The Amazon rainforest is one of the world's last true wildernesses. This beautiful rainforest is home to thousands of unique animals, including - jaguars, sloths, tapirs, glass frogs, golden lion tamarins, macaws, river dolphins, anacondas and so much more. A wide variety of interesting, cute and even scary animals live there.

There are still likely many animals that live within the Amazon rainforest that we still haven't discovered today. Therefore, there are likely many beautiful and fascinating animals, living deep within the Amazon rainforest, that we still haven't discovered.

Golden Lion Tamarin

By destroying the Amazon rainforest, we could be losing species of plants and animals to extinction that we don't even know about.

Losing Species To Extinction

There are also species that we know about that live within the Amazon rainforest that are at risk of extinction. A new report out by the Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA), says that over 10,000 species in the Amazon rainforest are at risk of extinction.

These 10,000 species, include both plants and animals.

These species are at risk of extinction due to deforestation. Deforestation happens because the rainforest is set on fire, or it is logged - this destroys the rainforest itself and animals that sadly are killed from the destruction of the forest.

Jaguar

One of the animals in the Amazon rainforest that are at risk of extinction, is, the gorgeous and magestic jaugar.

Jaguars are one of the big cat species that are alive in the world today. One of the main places that they are found living in is the Amazon basin. These beautiful big cats are also found living in the Pantanal wetlands - which is close to the Amazon rainforest. When we destroy the Amazon rainforest, we are destroying the home of animals like the jaguar, and risk pushing them towards extinction.

Jaguar

Today, jaguars are near threatened with extinction. Jaguars have sadly declined dramatically since the 1960s. In the 1960s the jaguar population was estimated to be 300,000 cats in the wild. Since then, the jaguar population has declined dramatically. Today, there are only estimated to be 170,000 jaguars. This means that the jaguar population has almost declined by 50% in just a few decades.

If we continued to destroy the Amazon rainforest then beautiful animals like the jaguar could end up becoming extinct. If we want to save the jaguar and other animals that live within the Amazon rainforest, then we need to protect the forest.

Monkey

When we save and protect the Amazon rainforest, we save and protect the animals that live within the rainforest.

The bad news is: over 10,000 species in the Amazon are at risk of extinction. The good news is: that we still have time to save these species and know what will happen if we keep destroying the forest. We don't have to keep destroying the Amazon rainforest; we can make a better world so that animals can live in peace.

But time isn't on our side, we have to save the Amazon rainforest today, to create a better tomorrow for animals that live within the Amazon rainforest.
