By reducing sewage being released into rivers, the UK government hopes to protect places like rivers and other waterways.
Another aim of protecting waterways in the UK will be for the government to improve our waterways and reduce sewage in storm overflows.
By doing this, the government aims to reduce the harm caused by storm overflows.
The UK government also set up the Storm Overflows Taskforce to help deal with storm overflows. They aim to almost 800 overflows between 2020 and 2025.
