A new David Attenborough documentary is to premiere this Sunday.
It is called 'Extinction: The Facts'.
Extinction: The Facts, is a documentary which is about the world's extinction crisis. The extinction crisis is also known as the world's 'Sixth Mass Extinction'. The world has already been through five mass extinction events. Today, we are in the world's sixth mass extinction event, because nature is disappearing so fast and species of plants and animals are going extinct at much higher rates than they usually would.
It is estimated that species are disappearing 1000 times faster than before humans were around.
It is also believed that one million species are now at risk of extinction on the earth.
Humans are having a devastating effect on wild animals and nature.
The new documentary 'Extinction: The Facts' will cover the extinction crisis and how the extinction crisis affects all of us.
David Attenborough has said:
"We are facing a crisis and one that has consequences for us all. It threatens our ability to feed ourselves, to control our climate, it even puts us at greater risk of pandemic diseases such as COVID-19.
It’s never been more important for us to understand the effects of biodiversity loss, of how it is that we ourselves are responsible for it. Only if we do that, will we have any hope of averting disaster.”
The extinction crisis is sad because it is pushing species towards extinction. When species go extinct, we can't see them again or get them back. We are at risk of losing beautiful animal and plant species forever. This crisis also comes at a cost, to ourselves and the planet - we need a healthy natural world to have a healthy human world and a healthy planet. Preserving the natural world is essential for us all: animals, humans and the earth.
You can catch David Attenborough's new documentary on the 13th of September on BBC One at 8 pm. You can also watch the trailer for it below.
