Lynx Could Reintroduced Into Scotland

Lynx

The Lynx could be reintroduced into Scotland.

When Did Lynx Go Extinct?

Lynx have been extinct on the British Isle for a very long time now. They went extinct on the British Isle over 1,000 years ago.

The last Lynx went extinct on the British Isles was 1,300 years ago.

Lynx went extinct because of them being hunted and deforestation.

The Reintroduction Of Lynx

The Lynx is also known as the Eurasian Lynx. Therefore, they have not gone extinct everywhere - there is estimated to be 50,000 of them in the wild today - which means that we have a chance to reintroduce them into the British countryside. Plans are in place to reintroduce them to the countryside.

The Lynx Trust UK is looking into releasing Lynxes into the wild. According to a new report, the Lynx Trust UK has an ecosystem in mind of where to release the Lynxes, that ecosystem is a forest near Loch Lomond.

Lynxes need a specific type of ecosystem to be released in, as they are only found within dense forests in the wild. Therefore, for Lynxes to be reintroduced into the wild in Britain, they would have to be reintroduced into forests that are suitable for them, in terms of shelter and food.

Rewilding Britain

Reintroducing animals like Lynxes into the British countryside once again would be good for rewilding Britain.

Rewilding Britain is important, as the UK is one of the most nature depleted countries in the world.

This means that we are one of the countries that have destroyed most or much of our nature. By rewilding Britain, we get to try and correct some of the damage done to our wildlife. This is one of the positive responses to rewilding Britain and reintroducing wildlife that once existed throughout the British Isles.

Reintroducing animals like the Lynx into the British countryside also can help certain ecosystems. In this case, it can help forest ecosystems as reintroducing animals like Lynxes can help balance our ecosystems out.

We can make our ecosystems healthier by rewilding.

The UK government has said that reintroducing species is a priority for the UK government. Reintroducing Lynxes is one of the animals that the UK government has been considering. One of the proposed places for the reintroduction of Lynxes in England has been Kielder Forest.

The Scottish government, on the other hand, has stated that it doesn't want to reintroduce Lynx to Scotland, they have said that there are no plans to reintroduce the Lynx into Scotland. Over a year ago, the Scottish government declared a climate emergency, yet, if we are to defeat climate change we need a healthy and vibrant ecosystem, we need to rewild, if we don't rewild and protect the natural world, then, we aren't going to stop climate change.
