Today, it is Global Recycling Day around the world.

Global Recycling Day happens on the 18th of March every year. It's a quite new event that was only created 4 years ago: the first Global Recycling Day was in 2018. It was created as a day to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and to celebrate the role that recycling plays in helping the planet.

What Is Recycling?

Recycling is where we take things that have been used and reuse them for future products. It is essentially where we reuse materials again.

These materials can be everything from paper to plastic. It can also be materials like glass, tins and wood.

There are many different types of materials that we can recycle and reuse again. By doing so, we can create less waste and less pollution on the planet.

Our Waste As Pollution

The things that we throw out often becomes pollution. This pollution doesn't just end up in landfills, it also end up in nature - especially our oceans and seas.

Turtle And Plastic Bag

It is estimated that there is a massive 5.25 trillion pieces of trash in our oceans.

This is harmful for our planet and the animals that live within it.

Sadly, this trash is then eaten by animals in the wild. Pollution like this also results in animals being caught in it or tangled in the waste.

Plastic pollution alone is massively harmful to marine animals. It's estimated that 100 million marine mammals die every year of plastic pollution. That doesn't include other animals that die of plastic pollution, such as birds and fish.

Therefore, when we don't reuse our waste by recycling it, the waste and pollution then becomes harmful to animals and the environment.

This is also harmful to us, as people eat marine animals, like fish. A type of plastic called microplastics has been found in supermarket seafood. These microplastics come from the products that we often use.

By recycling and using products which are environmentally friendly, not only do we help animals and the environment, but, we also help ourselves to.

How Can You Help?

If you want to help stop pollution and want to recycle, then, there are many ways you can do it. Here are a few sources below to help you...
