Hundreds Of Baby Turtles Vulnerable To Extinction Hatch On A Beach In India

Hundreds of baby turtles that are vulnerable to extinction have hatched and moved out into the ocean recently in India.

The baby turtles are known as Olive Ridley turtles. They are vulnerable to extinction as they are today classed as a vulnerable species.

Even though they are classed as a vulnerable species, Olive Ridley turtles are widespread across the world, as they are found in 80 different countries. They are found in coastal waters in tropical and subtropical waters.

India has a lot of these turtles that nests on their shores every year - it is thought that there are over 500,000 Olive Ridley turtle nests that can be found on India's beaches every year.

Fun fact: This turtle species is one of the smallest in the world.
