This month the Big Garden Birdwatch 2021 takes place.
The Big Garden Birdwatch has become an annual event; it takes place every year now during January. The Big Garden Birdwatch started in 1979, this year the event is 41 years old. The Big Garden Birdwatch happens during the end of January.
This year, the Big Garden Birdwatch 2021, will take place between the 29th of January and the 31st of January; which is the last weekend of this month.
It's a great event to take part in to help birds.
What Is The Big Garden Birdwatch?
The Big Garden Birdwatch is an event where you count the number of birds that come into your garden and record what species they are.
This event happens for an hour.
The RSPB (who are the ones that do the Big Garden Birdwatch), will give you a free bird pack to help you with your Big Garden Birdwatch. Usually your pack can be sent to you in the post by the RSPB, or, you can do it online.
What Were The Results Last Year?
After the RSPB has the results for the Big Garden Birdwatch, they will publish them - last year results of the Big Garden Birdwatch 2020 were known in early April.
The results are published in top 10 lists. These are the top 10 most common birds seen. In the UK-wide Big Garden Birdwatch 2020, there was one new enter into the top 10 list. That new entry was the Long-Tailed Tit.
The most popular bird seen last year was House Sparrows.
Will House Sparrows remain on top as the UK's most popular bird this year?
Or, will the House Sparrow be beaten to the top spot by a another year in the Big Garden Birdwatch 2021? Could it be the year for Starlings? Blue Tits? Or even Woodpigeons? Or, will the little House Sparrow remain on the top of the list for another year? Later this year, we will know who wins.
