Helping Animals: Adopt A Senior Pet Month

Happy Dogs

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month.

Adopt a Senior Pet Month aims to raise awareness about older pets - cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, and all other types of pets.

Pets like senior dogs and senior cats can have a harder time finding loving homes than younger cats and dogs. This means that older pets can find it more difficult to get adopted from a pet shelter, and, therefore, they can struggle to find homes.

Older pets deserve a loving home, just like younger pets. Older pets bring just as much love and companionship into people's homes and hearts as younger pets do.

Sadly, it is common for older pets to be dumped in shelters, or even outside so that people can have a younger pet. This is a cruel way to treat pets, especially when those pets have given years of their life-giving affection, love, and companionship to people. Thankfully, some of these older pets go on to find another home.

If you are going to adopt a pet, why not think about adopting a senior pet? It can help them live out their final years in a caring and loving home.

Senior pets can be overlooked in shelters, in favour of younger pets. Younger pets deserve loving homes too, but if more people look for an older pet to adopt, then we won't have as many older pets being overlooked and ignored.

Caring about senior pets doesn't need to stop with November ending, we can care about senior pets throughout the rest of the year too and raise awareness about them. Happy Adopt a Senior Pet Month!
