Today is World Soil Day. 🌱
Happy World Soil Day! 🤎🌱
World Soil Day happens on the 5th of December every year.
It is a good way to raise awareness about soil and its importance for us and all of the natural world.
We need healthy soil for healthy ecosystems - like healthy forests, meadows and grasslands. We also need healthy soil for growing crops for our food - healthy soil is needed for growing fruits and vegetables.
During this time of year, leaf's have fallen from the ground, those leafs are important, as they give a place for insects to hide and hibernate during the winter.
The leafs are also important for the health of the soil, as when they decompose it gives your soil much needed nutrients, which keeps the soil healthy.
So, this winter season, if you have leafs in your garden, instead of raking them up, leave them where they are to give insects a place to hibernate and to give your soil the nutrients it needs, that way, it benefits wildlife, the environment and you. It will also save you money, as you won't have to repair or fix your lawn or soil if you let it go through it's natural process. By spring, the leafs will have naturally decomposed.
There are many benefits to healthy soil - such as benefits to wildlife, the environment, farming and ourselves - if we work with nature, instead of against her, then we and other life will benefit far more from nature.
Happy World Soil Day! 🤎🌱
