Today is World Habitat Day; Happy World Habitat Day!
World Habitat Day happens on the first Monday of October every year, it was founded in 1985 by the United Nations (UN).
World Habitat Day is a day for us to raise awareness about the world's habitats, the challenges they face and the state that they are in today.
What Are Habitats?
Habitats are places that can be found all around the world - on land, or in the water.
Habitats are the homes of animals and plants which are found in the natural world. They can come in many different forms. These include:

. Grasslands
. Mountains
. Deserts
. Marine habitats
. Freshwater habitats
. Coastal habitats
. Polar region habitats
Habitats can be found all around the world. They are home to the world's wildlife - species of plants and animals can be found living within habitats.
Habitats are essential for the survival of wildlife, without habitats, animals and plant life wouldn't have a place to call home - it is their home.
Protecting habitats is important in preserving species. One of the best ways to help protect animals and stop extinctions is by saving habitats like forests and meadows. Therefore, if we are to help endangered species from going extinct, then, it is essential that we protect the habitats which they live within.
Habitats also have their own intrinsic beauty. Such as the beauty of forests and meadows, or the beauty of the oceans and seas, these beautiful habitats are a way for us to enjoy nature and be grateful for the natural world and the animals within it.
