Snow Leopards are a gorgeous animal which is part of the cat family.
The cat family is one of the most recognisable groups of animals on the planet today. There is estimated to be 38 species of cat in the world today, including the 7 big cat species.
The 7 big cat species belong to the same genus. That genus is called Panthera. A genus is a group that has similar biology and characteristics. The seven big cat species are (1) Lions, (2) Tigers, (3) Leopards, (4) Jaguars), (5) Cheetahs, (6) Mountain Lions and, (7) Snow Leopards.

Snow Leopards are one of the most gorgeous animals in the animal kingdom, with their fluffy fur coat and their cute face.
These adorable animals also have a ghost-like appearance and nature, which is why they have the nickname of ''Ghost of the Mountains''. They can blend into their background extremely well, which can make them hard to see in the wild.
Snow Leopard Day happens on the 23rd of October every year. This is the sixth annual Snow Leopard Day; Snow Leopard Day began in 2014. It is a great way to celebrate and raise awareness about these beautiful animals!

Snow Leopards are vulnerable to extinction.
Today, the Snow Leopard population is between 4,080 and 6,590 Snow Leopards in the wild today. Some estimates have the Snow Leopard population as low as 2,710 Snow Leopards.
Snow Leopards live in cold mountain areas in some parts of Asia, which are high up. They live within 12 different countries in Asia, these countries are - India, Pakistan, Bhutan, China, Mongolia, Russia, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan and Nepal.
Snow Leopards face many threats, including poaching and habitat loss from things like climate change.
Finally, other big cats are well-known for their roars. But, Snow Leopards can't actually roar, which makes them a unique big cat!
