Today is National Penguin Day; Happy National Penguin Day!
National Penguin Day is also known as Penguin Awareness Day. Today is a great day to raise awareness about penguins and celebrate them.
Penguins are one of the cutest animals in the animal kingdom: they have the most adorable walk. Some penguin species are small, which makes them even more adorable when they walk, and, some penguin species are big.
The biggest penguin species is the emperor penguin. And, the smallest penguin species is named the little penguin.
There are between 17 and 19 different species of penguin today.
Sadly, most of the penguin species are threatened with extinction today. Out of all the species of penguins, 11 of them are threatened with extinction today.
One of the biggest threats to the existence of penguins today is climate change.
Climate change is a threat to penguins because penguins usually rely on sea ice so that they can catch food. Penguins also rely on sea ice because penguins use sea ice as a place to breed. Therefore, with climate change melting the ice caps, in places like Antarctica, it means that it harms the penguins ability to catch food and have young. Therefore, climate change poses a big risk to penguins.
Penguins are mostly found in the coldest areas of the planet - such as Antarctica. These cute birds are only found in the Southern hemisphere; they are not found in the Northern hemisphere on earth. Although penguins are mostly found in cold parts of the Southern hemisphere, they are also found in warmer parts of the Southern hemisphere too; as penguins are found in both Australia and New Zealand.
Penguins are one of the most delightful animals in the animal kingdom.
They are cute and fun to watch.
Happy National Penguin Day! đ§
