International Polar Bear Day was created by Polar Bears International. They created International Polar Bear Day to be celebrated on the 27th of February because it is during this time when polar bear mums and their cubs are cuddled up in their dens
They also create this day to help protect these polar bear families across the Arctic.
Polar bears need our protection and help, as today, these beautiful animals are vulnerable to extinction.
Polar bears are one of the animals which are particularly vulnerable to climate change. This is because, one of the main reasons that polar bears are vulnerable to extinction today, is due to climate change - polar bears rely on sea ice for hunting for their food and when the ice melts and continues to melt due to climate change, it puts polar bears are risk of not finding food and could potentially lead to their extinction.
Another threat to their existence is habitat loss.
By raising awareness about the threats polar bears face in the modern world - such as habitat loss and climate change - we can help save them.
We can prevent their extinction if we know what threats they face.
Polar bears are magnificent animals, who deserve to live on this earth with us, in peace: it is their world too, not just ours.
Today is a great day to celebrate these wonderful animals. Did you know that a fully grown polar bear can weigh as much as ten men?!
