Today is International Clouded Leopard Day; Happy International Clouded Leopard Day! Clouded Leopard Day is celebrated on the 4th of August every year.
It is a day to celebrate the beautiful clouded leopard.
Clouded leopards are beautiful cats that are found in Asia.
Clouded leopards are mostly found in Southeast Asia. They can be found in spectacular rainforests in Indonesia, to the mysterious mountains of the Himalayas.
Clouded leopards are found living within forests. These beautiful cats blend into the forests with the pattern on their fur, acting like a good camouflage.
International Clouded Leopard Day, is also a day to raise awareness about them.
Sadly, clouded leopards are vulnerable to extinction today.
Due to them being vulnerable to extinction, clouded leopards have a very small population today. It is estimated that there are only 10,000 clouded leopards left in the world today, which is why these beautiful cats are vulnerable to extinction.
Species And Subspecies
There are species and subspecies of clouded leopards.
The two main species of clouded leopards are 1) the clouded leopard, and, 2) the Sunda clouded leopard.
The Sunda clouded leopard has two different subspecies. The two different subspecies of Sunda clouded leopard are 1) the Bornean clouded leopard and 2) the Sumatran clouded leopard. In 2017, the Sunda clouded leopard was estimated to be only 750 leopards, their very low population shows how low their population is and how vulnerable they are to extinction.
Clouded leopards are the smallest big cat in the world.
To protect these beautiful big cats, we have to protect their forest home. They deserve a place in the world alongside us - it is their home too.
