Today is International Cheetah Day: Happy International Cheetah Day! š§”šÆ
Cheetahs are gorgeous animals and unique to the big cat species. They are one of the very few big cat species that exist in the world today. Other big cat species include lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars and snow leopards.
Each big cat species is unique and beautiful.
Including, cheetahs! š§”šÆ
International Cheetah Day has been created to raise awareness about cheetahs. International Cheetah Day was created by the founder of the Cheetah Conservation Fund. International Cheetah Day also has its own website dedicated to the day, on the website you can learn how to help cheetahs.
Cheetahs are one of Africa's most well-known animals: they are part of the natural world there and are part of Africa's beautiful and unique wildlife. Sadly, African cheetahs are vulnerable to extinction today, it is estimated that there are only around 7,000 African cheetahs remaining in the wild today, which means that they have a small population today and are very vulnerable to extinction.
African cheetahs are not the only species of the cheetah: there are also Asiatic cheetahs, which are a lot rarer than their African cousins.
Cheetahs are not just found in Africa, they are also found in Asia. However, the Asiatic cheetah is very close to extinction today, and rare.
Asiatic cheetahs are sadly critically endangered today - they are one of the world's rarest and most endangered animals. Asiatic cheetahs used to live throughout much of Asia, sadly they only live in Iran today. Their population is very low. The Asiatic cheetah population is so low, that there are only thought to be fewer than 50 individual cats alive - this shows how close to extinction they are.
International Cheetah Day is a good day to raise awareness about Asiatic cheetahs and African cheetahs. It's also a good day to celebrate them. The future of these beautiful big cats depends on us, they deserve to live on this planet with us, as it is their home too. We need to protect their habitat and commit to more conservation work to make sure that Asiatic cheetahs and African cheetahs survive.
Let's celebrate these beautiful cats and protect them for the future.
Happy International Cheetah Day! š§”šÆ
