Why Is Buzzards Day Important?

Buzzards Day is a great day to celebrate Buzzards, but, it is also a great day to raise awareness about these birds.

Buzzards, like all birds of prey, are sadly persecuted. A report out in 2019 by the bird charity the RSPB found that birds of prey face ''relentless persecution''.

There has also been a surge in the persecution of birds of prey since the lockdowns began in the UK, where birds like Owls, Kites and Buzzards have been persecuted.

In May 2020, it was reported that there was in a surge in the persecution of birds of prey during the lockdown in the UK; these persecuted birds included Buzzards.

If you see a crime committed against a bird of prey, or any other bird, then you can fill out a Wild Bird Crime Report Form, which you can find - here.

Species Of Buzzards

In the UK, there are a few different species of Buzzards. The most common one is the Common Buzzard. Another species of Buzzard that you can see in the UK is the cool named Honey Buzzard - though, Honey Buzzards are rarer to see in the UK.

Enjoying Buzzards In The Wild

Buzzards, like all other wild animals, are interesting to watch in the wild.

When the days are bright and good, you can especially see Buzzards about - these birds are beautiful to see over farmland on a summers day. Therefore, they are great to look out for and watch during the summer months.
