Grow Your Garden Lawn This Month To Help Wildlife!

Garden

You can help wildlife - especially insects - during the month of May.

To help wildlife during the month of May you can take part in 'No Mow May'. The aim of No Mow May is to let your garden lawn grow throughout the month of May.

If you don't cut your grass this month and instead let it grow, then wildflowers will grow on your lawn. By allowing wildflowers to grow on your lawn you can help insects like bees and butterflies, as it gives them food.

You will be helping other animals too - such as birds, hedgehogs, frogs and more - as wildlife like this rely on eating insects to survive.

It is also good for the environment.

We can help biodiversity and the climate by creating gardens which are friendly to wildlife. No Mow May is a great way to help biodiversity.

Gardeners are being urged to let their lawns grow to help biodiversity and wildlife, you can even record the flowers that you see grow in your lawn.

You can record the flowers that you see with the 'No Mow May Project' which has been created by Plantlife, on the 21st of May to the 30th of May count the flowers in your garden as part of the No Mow May Project survey.

By taking part in No Mow May you will be helping insects like bees and butterflies. We are living in a biodiversity crisis where insects are declining and biodiversity is being lost at an alarming rate, you can help stop this decline from continuing by helping wildlife in your own garden.

Taking part in Now Mow May, and making your garden wildlife-friendly and insect-friendly, will help to make a difference to wildlife and nature.
