'Extinct' Volcano Mouse Has Been Rediscovered!

Volcano

An 'extinct' volcano mouse has been re-discovered recently.

The species of mouse is called the Pinatubo volcano mouse, they are also known as the long-nosed Luzon forest mouse.

In June 1991 (thirty years ago this year), the Pinatubo volcano erupted, causing the second most powerful volcano eruption of the 20th century. The most powerful eruption of the 20th century happened on the 6th of June 1912 in Alaska.

The Mount Pinatubo volcano began to erupt on the 2nd of April 1991 in the Philippines. It was the first time the volcano had erupted in 500 years. As a result of the eruption of Mount Pinatubo, it was thought that the Pinatubo volcano mouse had become extinct because of the eruption.

In surprising news recently, it has been announced by the Philippine Journal of Science that they have found the Pinatubo 30 years after Mount Pinatubo erupted and the cute mouse is not extinct anymore, which is brilliant news!
