Europe's bird population declines by 600 MILLION, says a new report.
A new report published by the RSPB, BirdLife International and the Czech Society for Ornithology has found that there has been a massive decline in the bird population in Europe. They have found that there has been a decline of over half a billion birds.
The decline has happened since 1980 and is a massive drop in the bird population in Europe. Sadly, there are several bird species with massive declines in their populations, this includes Starlings, Tree Sparrows, House Sparrows and Skylarks.
The House Sparrow population has declined by a massive 247 million birds!
The declines have happened since 1980.
The Yellow Wagtail population has declined by 97 million birds.
The Starling population has declined by 75 million birds.
The Skylark population has declined by 68 million birds.
The Tree Sparrow population has declined by 30 million birds.
The report shows a very worrying decline in birds.
There are several reasons for the decline in these bird species in Europe. The main reasons for the decline in bird species in Europe are - changes in farming policy, the destruction of ecosystems and the decline in natural food for the birds.
Therefore, to save birds in Europe, and stop further declines in the bird population, we have to preserve ecosystems, rewild and stop harmful farming practices.
The researchers who discovered these findings of the decline of the bird populations in Europe studied 378 out of 445 bird species native to EU countries.
