Ecuador Becomes The Latest Country To Join The UK's Global Ocean Alliance😊🎉



Ecuador has become the latest country UK's Global Ocean Alliance.


What Is The Global Ocean Alliance?


The Global Ocean Alliance was established by the UK government.


The Global Ocean Alliance was set up by the UK government last year, in September 2019 as a way to help the world's oceans. When it was first established, 10 countries signed up to the Global Ocean Alliance, pledging to help the world's oceans.


The first 10 countries to join were:


Finland

Belize

Costa Rica

Gabon

Kenya

Belgium

Portugal

Vanuatu

Seychelles, and

Palau


Since these 10 countries have joined, more countries over the course of almost a year since the Global Ocean Alliance was formed have joined it.


The Global Ocean Alliance now has double the amount of countries that have joined it.


Now, there are 20 countries that are part of the Global Ocean Alliance.


Other countries to join the Global Ocean Alliance include:


Sweden (joined in Febuary 2020)


Germany (joined in May 2020)


Canada (joined in July 2020)


Chile (also joined in July 2020)


What Are The Goals Of The Global Ocean Alliance?


There are several goals of the Global Ocean Alliance. The biggest goal of the Global Ocean Alliance is in these countries working together to:


. Protect at least 30% of the world's oceans


. Establish Marine Protected Areas


. Tackling plastic pollution


. Banning things like plastic straws, cotton buds, and stirrers


. Helping species like Turtles, Seahorses, and corals
