Critically Endangered Red Wolf Dies In North Carolina

Red Wolf

There is some sad news, as a critically endangered Red Wolf has died in North Carolina in the United States of America.

The Red Wolf was a female Red Wolf named Pigeon. She was 15 years old when she died at North Carolina Zoo.

The zoo said that Pigeon was an ''amazing ambassador for her species'' and that she had a strong bond with the male wolves that she lived with.

The passing of Pigeon is both sad news for Pigeon and her species, as Red Wolves are critically endangered today and they are at serious risk of becoming extinct!

As a critically endangered species, the Red Wolf population is very small today. It is estimated that the Red Wolf population in North Carolina in the wild was only 10 individual Red Wolves in February 2021. In captivity, it is estimated that there are around 250 Red Wolves that are in captivity.

Sadly, the Red Wolf population has declined significantly in recent years, which is worrying for the future of these beautiful animals.
