There is sad and worrying news about Asiatic Cheetahs, as it has been reported that there are now only 12 Asiatic Cheetahs found in the wild, in Iran.
This is a significant and worrying decline in their population since the last time we heard about their population.
The last time we had an update about the Asiatic Cheetah population was in 2017 when it was announced that only 50 Asiatic Cheetahs remained.
Within just five years, the Asiatic Cheetah population has dramatically declined, as there are now only 12 Asiatic Cheetahs remaining.
This makes Asiatic Cheetahs one of the rarest animals in the world today AND, makes these beautiful big cats sadly very close to extinction today.
If the Asiatic Cheetah population keeps declining like this, then we could tragically lose these beautiful big cats in the very near future.
The Asiatic Cheetah was once widespread, however, now these beautiful big cats are only found living in Iran.
The 12 last ever remaining Asiatic Cheetahs are found living in the wild within Iran: these 12 Asiatic Cheetahs are sadly the last of their kind.
Of the 12 remaining Asiatic Cheetahs, 9 of them are male cheetahs and only 3 of them are female cheetahs: these beautiful big cats are on the brink of extinction.
The situation is critical for Asiatic Cheetahs, even more so due to their only being 3 remaining female Asiatic Cheetahs left in the world.
These beautiful big cats are sadly now only hanging on by a thread.
Why Have They Declined?
A major reason that Asiatic Cheetahs have declined is due to habitat fragmentation caused by roads being built through their habitats.
The roads are destructive to the cheetahs habitats and they also sadly cause cheetahs to be killed on the roads by passing cars.
How Do We Save Them?
With only 12 left, time is not on our side to save these beautiful animals.
Protecting their habitat is a major way that we can help to save Asiatic Cheetahs and prevent their extinction. Other ways that we could help save Asiatic Cheetahs is by rewilding their habitats and protecting them from dogs and droughts.
It is very sad news to hear that there are only 12 Asiatic Cheetahs now remaining in the world today. Another beautiful animal has been pushed to the brink of extinction, sadly, we could end up seeing Asiatic Cheetahs becoming extinct soon.
There is an Asiatic Cheetah below, he is one of the last of his kind, he could be one of the last Asiatic Cheetahs to walk this earth...
Extinction, is forever.
