Britain's most vulnerable animals are at risk of legal protections being removed.
The protection of species within the UK is in review.
This review could result in animals that are vulnerable to extinction or near threatened with extinction not being protected. Instead, it could result in animals only being protected when they are very at risk of extinction.
This could result in species only being cared for and considered when they are very at risk of extinction. This could harm animals as it could result in the decline of species not being stopped until that decline reaches a critical position.
Instead, we should be preventing animals from becoming critically endangered, endangered and near threatened, instead of waiting until the animals become in a critical position where it becomes very difficult to pull them back from the brink of extinction. Preventing extinction is in recognizing the signs that a species is in decline and acting to stop that decline before it becomes too perilous to stop.
It is reported that if these changes are to become law, then it could harm many beloved species in the UK which are vulnerable to extinction. These species include adders, brown hares, pine martens and many more.
At a time when the UK is one of the world's most nature-depleted countries in the world, and, at a time when we are seeing wildlife declining at an alarming rate, this is sad news and one that could potentially see further declines in animals.
