Bears In Peru Enjoy The Lockdown At Machu Picchu

Andean Bear

Bears have been enjoying time at the historic site of Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu is a historic citadel in the Andes mountains in Peru. It is a famous attraction for tourists to visit and usually it is a tourist hotspot.

But, with many countries around the world in lockdowns, Machu Picchu is deserted of tourists. With no tourists, the wildlife is making the most of the unusually quiet Machu Picchu recently.

One such notable animal that has been out and about in Machu Picchu recently is bears. These bears are known as Andean bears.

Andean bears are the only bears native to South America.

Andean bears are really cute. They are noticeably different than brown bears. Today, Andean bears are vulnerable to extinction, therefore, perhaps the recent lockdowns could help these cute animals bounce back a bit.

The Andean bear is also known as the Spectacled bear, they were also the bears that inspired the classic stories of Paddington Bear.
