Today is 'Ban Live Exports: International Exports Day'.
This day is observed on the 14th of June every year, as a way to raise awareness about animal live exports. It's also a day about campaigning to end animal live exports across the world, to create a kinder world for animals.
What Are Live Animal Exports?
Live animal exports are where animals (usually 'farm' animals) are transported on long journeys. Usually, these journeys involve animals being transported, while still alive, over long journey's across countries.
These journeys involved animals being forced into cramped spaces - such as lorries. These journeys often last for days without animals being given any food or water. Sadly, due to this and due to the stress of the journeys and being overheated due to the cramp conditions the animals are forced to live in, some animals die before they reach their destination on the other end.
The live export in animals has been condemned by many.
It is a cruel way to treat animals; animals don't deserve to be treated like this. It is also unnecessary and creates suffering for millions of animals every year.
It is estimated that in Europe alone that millions of animals are transported live throughout the continent every year. Millions of these animals are forced to travel even longer journeys to the middle east and Africa - these journeys last for days. This means that these gentle and loving animals are cramped within these small, hot and cramped conditions for days, then, they will sadly be slaughtered.
The protections which are given to animals within Europe, disappear when the animals leave Europe - it means that animals tragically suffer a worse fate and death because the protections aren't there to protect them.
What Can We Do To Help Animals?
It doesn't have to be this way for animals: we can create a kinder world for them.
A world that is more compassionate, loving and considerate for animals.
The best way we can help to end live animal exports, is, to become vegan or vegetarian. Changing our diet to a diet where we don't eat meat, can help create a kinder world for animals because there will be no demand for live animal exports.
Other ways that we can help animals, is by getting in touch with our governments and elected officials to say to them that you want a kinder world for animals and a stop to live animal exports. Thankfully, Compassion in World Farm has made a way for you to contact your elected officials to ask for change (you can find that in the Tweet below, where you can help put an end to live animal exports).
We can all make a difference for the lives of animals who are forced to travel long distances and endure live exports, but, it doesn't have to be this way - a kinder and more compassionate world can be created for animals.
