An 'Extinct' Australian Species Of Mouse Is Found Again After 150 Years! 🐭


Gould's Mouse

An 'extinct' species of mouse has been found again in Australia.


The mouse is known as Gould's Mouse and was last seen in the wild over 150 years ago. Therefore, it's thought that this cute mouse has been extinct for over 150 years.


Until now.


The cute mouse was found again in the wild on islands off of the Western coast of Australia. Researchers have also found that this little mouse is doing really well.

DNA has identified these cute mouse to be the Gould's Mouse.


They were found in Western Australia in an area known as Shark Bay. Shark Bay today is a World Heritage Site. This gives Shark Bay protections and is a conservation area, this is great news for the Gould Mouse.


The last time that the Gould's Mouse was assessed before this was in 2012. Finding them again is great news, and, it offers hope for other species.
