All Species Of Freshwater Dolphin Are Now At Risk Of Extinction

Dolphins

A new report from the IUCN says that all freshwater Dolphins are now threatened.

When species are classified as threatened, it means that they are threatened with extinction. It also means that when a species is threatened, they are one step away from becoming an endangered species.

Therefore, this new report is not good news for freshwater Dolphins.

Freshwater Dolphins, are dolphins that are found in rivers. The freshwater dolphin species are the Amazon river dolphin, the Bolivian river dolphin, the Tucuxi, and the Ganges river dolphin.

The new report about freshwater dolphins all being threatened with extinction is important, it is important because freshwater dolphins tell us about the health of the freshwater and river ecosystems that the dolphins live in.

Dolphins are important for healthy ecosystems. And, a decline in Dolphins may indicate that the marine ecosystems that the dolphins live within are perhaps not as healthy as the ecosystems should be and that we hope them to be.

Dolphins are important to the marine ecosystems that they live in as their foraging nature is essential to managing these marine ecosystems. Therefore, saving dolphins for the future is important for the marine ecosystems that they inhabit.

Marine ecosystems that dolphins live within are not just river ecosystems, they are also sea ecosystems. Therefore, dolphins are essential for both healthy rivers and healthy seas for now and for future generations.

There are 5 freshwater dolphin species in the wild today.
