A third of all Lemur species are now critically endangered, according to the IUCN.
Lemurs are a cute animal which is only found in Madagascar, within the Madagascan rainforest. There are 107 different known species of Lemurs living within the Madagascan rainforest today.
The vast majority of Lemur species are now threatened with extinction, as 103 out of 107 are now threatened with extinction.
Out of the 107 different species of Lemur, 33 of them are now critically endangered.
Out of the 33 critically endangered species of Lemur, 13 of them have been newly classed as being critically endangered today.
One of the main reasons why there are so many species of Lemurs at risk of extinction today is due to deforestation within the Madagascan rainforest.
Deforestation isn't the only reason for the decline in Lemurs though. One of the other main reasons for a decline in Lemur species is due to them being hunted.
The vast majority of the Madagascan rainforest has now been destroyed. NASA has estimated that 90% of the Madagascan rainforest has already been destroyed. If we are going to save Lemurs from becoming extinct, then we have to preserve their rainforest.
