2020 seen an increase in the number of animals that were abandoned in Scotland.
The animal charity - the Scottish SPCA, has said that it has seen an increase in the number of pets abandoned since the pandemic began.
The Scottish SPCA has been very busy over the past year, they have dealt with 214 animal incidents on average every day, which has resulted in them helping 78,000 animals this past year alone.
The Scottish SPCA helps both pets and wildlife. In 2020, their National Wildlife Rescue Centre cared for 7,000 wild animals in the past year.
There has been an increase in demand for puppies, which has led to an increase in 'low-welfare puppy farms'. As a result, the SPCA has been taking more puppies into their care: they have seen a 'surge' in puppies being brought into their care.
The SPCA is asking people not to let animals suffer.
Lockdowns have seen an increase in the demand for pets, which in turn, is causing an increase in things like the cruel puppy trade seeing an increase in demand over the past year. Puppies that come from puppy farms, sadly often become weak due to the conditions that they are kept in and because they are taken away from their mums when they are too young, this sadly leads to puppies dying.

Please remember: pets are forever, not just for lockdown, please don't treat pets and other animals like they are disposable, a pet is a lifetime commitment.
