''The nation's best site for nightingales is threatened by development, again.Once a Ministry of Defence training ground, Lodge Hill in Kent now provides a vital home for our most famous songbird, the nightingale, a bird that has declined by 91% in the last 40 years.
It is so important for nightingales that it has been designated a protected area specifically for these lyrical songsters. And it's not just nightingales. Lodge Hill is a wildlife haven with ancient woodland and extensive grassland, inhabited by badgers, bats, rare wildflowers and other wildlife.
Unfortunately, Medway Council are determined to see the site and its surroundings developed for housing, in what could be one of the greatest losses of a protected area in 30 years.Imagine what this would mean, not only for the nightingales of Lodge Hill but for protected areas everywhere.
Please take action to help make sure this doesn't happen on our watch. Will you help us reach 10,000 voices calling to save Lodge Hill?''
