Plastic pollution is a huge problem for seabirds and other marine wild animals. There are many marine wild animals that sadly suffer from plastic pollution. These animals include turtles, whales, seals and even birds.
These marine wild animals ingest many forms of plastic, such as lighters, plastic bottle tops, plastic straws and plastic bags, to name a few.
This can result in these marine wild animals suffering tremendously, and eventually dying. It also results in animals like seabirds unknowingly feeding plastic to their young. Therefore, not only does this problem effect adult birds (and other adult animals), it affects younger ones too.
A new study shows that 59% of the species studied had ingested plastic. Meanwhile, there were 29% of them that had plastic in their gut.
Now, 99% of seabird species could be tainted with plastic by 2050. If true, this means that virtually all seabirds by 2050 will be ingesting plastic and effected by plastic pollution. Our seas and oceans are a lot more polluted than we imagine, the way that plastic pollution is affecting seabirds and other marine wild animals shows how unhealthy our oceans are.
