There is good news, as the UK government has passed the 'Shark Fins Act'!
The Shark Fins Act was passed into law at the end of June.
This is great news, that shows compassion and kindness towards sharks, and hopefully encourages other countries to also ban shark fins being imported and exported to help end the barbaric shark fin trade.
With the passing of this law, it will ban imported and exported products that contain shark fins, this includes products like shark fin soup.
It also aims to help better shark conservation.
Banning shark finning products in the UK, will help to save sharks - shark finning is immensely cruel, it results in humans cutting the fins off of sharks while the sharks are still alive, than the sharks are cruelly chucked back into the water finless where they are left to die a slow and painful death because they can no longer swim.
The United Kingdom has banned shark finning since 2003, this new law helps protect sharks further, by banning shark products in the UK. It also stops the exporting and importing of shark fins in the UK.
It will help to create a more compassionate society in the UK, where shark fin products are not sold, and shark finning is illegal. Hopefully, more countries will follow and ban the cruel treatment of shark because of shark finning.
Out of the 500 species of shark that exist, 143 shark species are under threat, through being vunerable to extinction, endangered, or critically endangered. Ending shark finning will help to protect sharks, and could also help stop many species from becoming extinct. A kinder and more compassionate world for sharks can be created, we just have to create it.
