There is good news for black rhinos, as a new report by the IUCN has said that the population of black rhinos has just increased. The IUCN said yesterday (the 19th of March 2020) that the population of black rhinos has been slowly increasing recently.
The population of black rhinos has now increased to 5,630 individual rhinos, according to the recent assessment of the species by the IUCN. Although the black rhino population has now increased, their conservation status remains the same today, the same as the last time the african black rhino was monitored. The conservation status of the black rhino is: critically endangered. Therefore, black rhinos are a critically endangered species.
The population of black rhinos has increased from between 2012 to 2018. Before this new study was done on the black rhino population, the estimated population for black rhinos was 4,845 individuals. The IUCN believes that the black rhino population will further increase over the next few years, which is more positive news for this endangered species.
Why Have The Population Of Black Rhinos Increased?
The population of black rhinos has increased over the last few years because there has been greater protection of the species lately. Greater protection of black rhinos has happened due to law enforcement and people helping to save this species from poachers.
These beautiful animals are still vulnerable to extinction. However, there is reason to hope that there is a brighter future ahead for African black rhinos.
