The World's Adorable Lemurs!

Adorable Lemur

Madagascar is well-known for its unique and wonderful wildlife and its stunning scenery.

This African island has wild animals existing on its island and within its rainforests that are found nowhere else in the world.

Madagascar's most well-known animals are their adorable lemurs. Lemurs are found within Madagascar's beautiful rainforests.

The only place in the world where lemurs are found is on the island of Madagascar and the Comoro Islands - they are found nowhere else in the world.

There are 113 species of lemur in Madagascar today. However, there could be more lemurs we have yet to discover, as we are still discovering new lemur species.

For example, a new mouse lemur species was discovered in July this year (2020). In January 2018, there was also another new species of lemur discover - this adorable species of lemur is a dwarf species and is smaller than a squirrel.

What Are Lemurs?

Lemurs are mammals and primates.

Lemurs are animals that live in trees. They also tend to be nocturnal animals, so they are active during nighttime.

Lemur species include beautiful species like the Ring-tailed lemur and the Common brown lemur.

Lemur species also include the mysterious Aye-aye.

And, lemur species also include primates known as 'Sifakas'. These Sifaka species include the Verreaux sifaka and the Coqurerel's sifaka. Sifakas look quite similar to Ring-tailed lemurs.

Where Do Lemurs Live In The Wild?

Lemurs have different habitats in the wild.

They live within forests and rainforests. But are also found in habitats like mountainous areas and wetlands in Madagascar.

What Is The Diet Of Lemurs?

The diet of lemurs will depend on the lemur species, as different lemur species can have different diets.

There are common things that lemurs eat though, such as fruits, flowers, leaves and insects. Therefore, they have a wide variety of tasty foods in the wild that they enjoy!

What Is The Mating Season Like For Lemurs?

The mating season for lemurs isn't long. These cute animals only mate for three weeks of the years.
